Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy (SOCA) joined the global community to commemorate World Heart Day on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with a special event focused on heart health, healthy living, and the importance of making positive lifestyle choices.
The event featured representatives of the Nigerian Heart Foundation, whose Executive Director, Dr. Kingsley Akinroye, was represented through a message delivered to the school community. The Nigerian Heart Foundation is committed to promoting cardiovascular health and raising awareness about the prevention of heart disease.
Welcoming the visiting guests, SOCA Chief Executive Officer, Chief Segun Odegbami (MON), expressed his delight at hosting the programme and encouraged the visitors to experience the school’s environment and daily activities.
In his welcome address, the former Nigerian international footballer highlighted the importance of striving for excellence, drawing inspiration from Nigerian chef Hilda Baci and her determination to achieve something extraordinary in her profession.
Chief Odegbami used her story to reinforce SOCA’s motto, “To Be the Best That I Can Be,” encouraging students to go beyond the ordinary, pursue their ambitions with determination, and seek opportunities to distinguish themselves through hard work and creativity.
He explained that excellence is not limited to scientists, engineers, doctors, or professional athletes. According to him, individuals in every field can achieve remarkable things when they are willing to challenge themselves and pursue their goals with commitment.
The World Heart Day celebration provided an opportunity to highlight the connection between healthy living and personal achievement. Maintaining an active lifestyle, eating a balanced diet, and developing healthy habits are important steps towards protecting heart health.
For SOCA, the event also reinforced the school’s commitment to developing students academically, physically, and socially, equipping them with the knowledge and discipline required to succeed both on and off the field.
The celebration ended with a renewed emphasis on the importance of health awareness, personal responsibility, and the pursuit of excellence among members of the school community.
