Wasimi, Ogun State | October 1, 2026

Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy (SOCA) joined Nigerians across the country and around the world in celebrating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The celebration provided an opportunity for the school community to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence on October 1, 1960, while encouraging students to embrace the values of patriotism, discipline, unity, and national development.
At SOCA, education goes beyond classroom learning. Through its combination of academic studies and sports development, the institution seeks to prepare young people to become responsible citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
Nigeria’s Independence Day remains a reminder of the country’s rich cultural diversity, abundant human potential, and the opportunities available to its younger generation. It also calls on young Nigerians to recognise their responsibility in shaping the country’s future.
For students of SOCA, the occasion served as an opportunity to appreciate the sacrifices of those who contributed to Nigeria’s independence and to reflect on the roles they can play in building a stronger nation.
As a school that places emphasis on talent development and the pursuit of excellence, SOCA continues to encourage its students to develop the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to represent Nigeria positively in education, sports, and other fields of endeavour.
The school congratulates Nigerians on the 66th Independence Day and encourages the younger generation to remain committed to the values of hard work, integrity, unity, and national progress.
Happy 66th Independence Day, Nigeria!
